In this session QUT students were introduced to the Great and Grand Rumpus Project and given a brief of their involvement in it via Situational Creative Practice unit

  • Brief discussion on the the exhibition outcomes links to well artefact. “sculptures don't have to be a representation of a dragon, they might just have the heart of a dragon in them… or they could be a dragon”

  • How many hours/ days will we be spending here?
  • If the sculptures are going to be interactive how will you deal with potential covid transmission via the hands on sculptures?
  • Where will you store the sculptures while they are being constructed?
  • What limitations are there in the SLQ Gallery space?

Part 5 - Fabrication Lab General Induction

Part 6 - explore the well and //Spirits of the Grumpus// design and fabrication

  • Rozina introduced examples of lamp structure and construction technique and the Spirit of the Rumpus Wild concept
  • Students introduced to the materials they will be working with
  • Students shown a few construction techniques and given time to play with the materials and to figure out their capabilities
  • Students encouraged to explore the Well and to start to brew ideas and concepts and some of these ideas were mapped out on paper for next week
  • Students given homework task to explore the Well, select Things they are drawn to contribute to the group and also to come with a geometric shape and a concept in mind for their Spirit of the Rumpus Wild
