Find out more about how this barrier affects the person. Show how using digital technology can offer ways that they can find and connect to more of their community or expand them into other appropriate communities as well.

Reach out to community organisations or ask for feedback to determine the barriers that may be restricting people. Use this information to provide access/training to overcome these barriers ie. training for mums while kids are at school, training for workers after work
Georgia, 2021/04/01 11:04
Research what organisations in the community offer and what you might be able to help.

Reach our to different organisations in your community and establish the training needs of your community. Find ways to engage with prospective patrons to assess their needs, challenges and expectations. It is important that the training is inclusive of everyone in the community.

Our world is moving on-line quickly (even quicker since covid), talking/promoting/helping our customers understand this change will be important in changing the way they think and the want to learn.
Tanaya, 2020/10/31 10:15
Community engagement and inclusion is the best way for seniors to gain confidence with using digital equipment. It is even more so vital in todays world now that a lot of social/community services are moving to an online demographic.

Linking to the particular community group could creates a more positive environment for the customer and more relevant to their needs.
Jenny, 2020/10/19 16:17
Alot of our older community members think they don't need to learn. So reinforcing the need as human services push for further online and self-serve options to access medicare, centrelink etc. Being able to converse on their level to help them understand that they do not need to fear technology.
I also find that if I have a group with different levels of experience, it does help to have a more experienced group member next to one that has no experience at all. So they can then see it is possible to learn and they help each other.
Pearl, 2020/10/15 14:46
Great suggestions above about reaching out to the community and offering training etc.
Kirsty, 2020/10/12 16:14
Community engagement,

Acknowledge that different communities value different things. Technology & the internet should be seen as a tool to help them achieve their goals and to reinforce community.
Allow patrons to tell us what they want to learn & tailor sessions accordingly.
Leisa , 2020/10/09 09:42
I would need to determine what the specific requirement was and go from there e.g. is it a workshop for unemployed customers? I would tailor the workshop to the specific needs of the group.
Hannah, 2020/10/06 13:05
I agree with the above comments that community engagement is important.

Susan , 2020/09/23 12:21
Sometimes asking if there is a family member that can help them. Also become familiar with cultural community classes in your area so you can refer them in the right direction.
Alexis, 2020/09/21 15:25
Cultural barriers are very difficult to navigate without direct consultation with community members. Approaching cultural associations would be one step in identifying barriers and their potential solutions.
Petrina, 2020/09/15 14:09
Find out training needs of your community, engage with prospective students to assess their needs, challenges and expectations. Try and make sure students with similar levels of skills are in the same groups. Some may need smaller groups with more one on one access to training for them to achieve.
Theresa, 2020/09/23 11:34

sue, 2020/08/31 11:19
Offer training to the community and ask the community what they would like to get out of digital training. It may mean different staged lessons
Natasha, 2020/08/28 17:45
Consult with the Community before delivering the training so the facilitator is aware of what the Communities needs are and adjust the training accordingly.
Christi, 2020/08/26 11:09
Encourage them to talk with others they feel close to. Explain there are many different people who attend our classes and they may find someone with whom they can relate.
Tammy, 2020/08/20 15:44
Encourage networking within the individual's community. Youth, especially, may have digital knowledge already and this could lead to further training opportunities.
Sharynn, 2020/08/19 13:26
If it is a language barrier suggest classes or set the computer to their language if possible. Cultural differences much harder to overcome perhaps suggest classes
