At The Edge we use a wide variety of online resources and generators to create templates, designs and fabricated items. We have compiled many of the main resources below for the public to use.

State Library Collections

State Library of Queensland is the leading reference and research library in Queensland. State Library is responsible for collecting and preserving a comprehensive collection of Queensland’s cultural and documentary heritage, providing free access to information for all Queenslanders and for the advancement of public libraries across the State.

The Edge tries to use free and open source software where possible, however in some cases we will use industry standard applications for some fabrication and development areas. We have compiled a list of many of the applications we use, along with links to free online creative resources available.

Sometimes you might want to use a free and open source vector image, so we have compiled a list of web resources below. Please always be aware of attribution and usage rights, some may say free but still require attribution to the creator. You may also be required to sign up for an account before downloading, always be aware of suspicious links and requests for credit card info.

Design Library

This is a collection of vector graphics that are available as free resources for the public. These have been compiled from free resources online or created by State Library staff for use at The Edge.

Library of Designs

Where possible we will provide an image of the final fabricated design along with a PDF of the design file, PDF's are the best way to upload and share via our Wiki, as SVG files show up as images.

The Edge uses the free and open-source program Inkscape for many of the design processes we teach in workshops. Adobe Illustrator is also available on our Mac Studio computers in the Digital Media Lab, and on our Lenovo laptop PCs. CorelDraw is currently available only on the two PCs serving our Trotec laser cutter/engravers.
