What did you think was successful about the workshop?

Students conceptually on board with the process. Loved viewing and unpacking the collection items.
Students loved the imaginative visualisation. It produced great outcomes.
Artwork produced was very strong/interesting.
Year 4's were highly capable of inputting their own submission via keyboard.

What did you learn from the workshop?

This is a fun, interesting and intuitive workshop for participants.
The first half of the workshop - the conceptual and creative component - is simple and achievable.
One BIG observation is that students are really not used to being asked to use their imaginations and express themselves with no strings attached.
Students should be empowered and encouraged throughout this workshop to be the experts and masters of their own imagination, and their expression of that.
Documentation is a tricky process and requires time & support. There may be improvements to be had in terms of work flow here.
A functioning collection platform and high capacity internet is essential to the running of this program.
Documentation at 25 minutes per group of 5 is ambitious - this is a whole day workshop for the facilitator.

Can you note any ideas for future implementation?

Send teachers information on the project & workshop in advance so they feel prepared for the day.
Ensure schools have permission forms to parents 1 week prior to workshop to maximise collection.
The first third of the workshop can be condensed to leave more time for artwork creation.
Limit the palette given to participants, in this case don't give them graphite pencils as well as colour pencils, as they all did graphite outlines which meant that the process took them longer than it should.
Arrive 30 minutes earlier to complete technical setup, otherwise there is little time for lunch.
iPads are the ideal collection tool for this workshop, as they can record photo and video, and upload to the wiki from one device.
Audio recording should happen with each small group of students as soon as they enter the room. This should be free-styled rather than read from the story sheet, because you get different, more interesting content that through their written expression.
Do not use Zoom H4 due to the file size of each recording.

Can you share any memorable moments or quotes from participants?

Participant said to Daniel and I after the workshop: “Thank-you for showing me that I can use my imagination and be brave”
One student, when asked to close his eyes and use his imagination to do a visualisation that was about to take five minutes, opened his eyes after a few seconds and said “I'm done. I used my imagination!”

What did you think was successful about the workshop?

people are keen to make.
people love the idea of a structured project they can adopt
people are inspired about the ideas in the well.

What did you learn from the workshop?

* there are common themes in the things - rainbows, undersea, unicorns, colour

these theme were present in 2018 - Why? riffed on this question with participants - discussed how these things belong to an “other space” thats different to their everyday life and exciting to think about.
i was keen to make sure i didnt waste early adopters time
but also explained we wouldn't make any big decisions until more people in the group. (*)
people want to be able to view well at home
people like the idea of being able to follow from home if life gets in the way, and to be able to communicate and work their own hours.
interested in working on stuff during open lab too.

| Can you note any ideas for future implementation? | need a dedicated facilitator or move workshopy part of the session to before open lab (where we are delivering content or facilitating process- ongoing work can happen during Open Lab) hard to get photos (not alot to photograph - and difficult to do three things at once.

maybe making in a public space would attract passers by. especially during the weekend.
maybe the 2018 video and a call to action would drive new participants

was great to be able to take the guys down to work with Peter on shark when session ran out of steam (*)
was good for them to see peter working on the shark

What did you think was successful about the workshop? The finished coloured designs based on the students imagined worlds drawing. The shadow silhouette shapes that the students drew and cut out to add a shadow play element to their lanterns.

What did you learn about the workshop? It was necessary to break the task down into manageable stages So that the students could complete the Lanterns.
